Mayor Bloomberg Sticks Up Plaxico Burress!

You know what I didn’t need today?  Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  I did not need him to spout off on the Plaxico Burress situation.  In case you missed it, the mayor seems hell bent on making an example of Plaxico.  He even went as far as actually contacting NFL Commish Roger Goodell.  It’s quite clear Bloomberg wants the book thrown at Burress and he’s hoping for a quick completion by putting all his muscle behind it.

The impression I got was that maybe the Giants didn’t give the mayor prime seats in the soon to be new Giants’ stadium…

But that as it may or may not be,  as a Giants fan coming to the realization that our road to a potential second straight Super Bowl just got a whole lot tougher, I did not need Mayor Bloomberg rubbing salt in my football wound.  Sure we all know that we’ve lost the services of Plaxico Burress due to his own stupidity.  And I absolutely think Plax deserves what he gets.

I’ve even gotten to the point (having read recently that Burress has so far been fined 25 times this season by the Giants), where I’m feeling like it is time for the Giants to sever all ties to Burress.  He simply is no longer worth the continuing aggrevation.

Speaking of aggrevation… Back to Bloomberg, who has actually been a pretty good mayor to the Big Apple until recently when he himself pulled off the biggest stick up of them all.  No gun needed by the way…

For those of you outside the region or the local uninformed, New York City has term limits.  Mayor Bloomberg was supposed to be barred from running for a third straight term.  However, he woke up one morning and decided that due to the current financial crisis the city needed him and ONLY HIM to continue as mayor to see us through this crisis.

Of course, this logically begs the question “weren’t you the mayor when this crisis first occurred?”  I don’t for a moment think that Bloomberg is responsible for the sorry state of our nation’s economy, but like a football coach, it did happen on his watch and so he should get asked some tough questions.  Like, isn’t there at least some doubt as to whether having presided as mayor during the crisis actually means he’s automatically the best person to help fix it?

New York voters are going to find out whether they like it or not.  Through some very shrewd political manovers, Bloomberg was able to do away with term limits without actually going to the trouble of letting the public vote on the issue.  This despite the fact that term limits had been supported in public votes time and again.

But what’s the will of the people really mean anyway???

Now there is no barrier to a third Bloomberg term.  Armed with his encumbancy and all the advantages that brings, Mayor Bloomberg will be relected.  Term limits be damned!

And for that reason Bloomberg is a much better stick up artist than Plaxico Burress will ever be.
